Always here to help, Bald Hills Dental
Dr Robert Lin is a Brisbane-based general dentist, educator and business owner with a particular passion for airway health, sleep, dentofacial development and functional orthodontics. He graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental
Science in 2009, before gaining further experience with Queensland Health in oral surgery and emergency dental care. His career has since taken him across private practices in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Townsville and Sydney, alongside extensive postgraduate
education both in Australia and internationally.
Central to Dr Lin’s philosophy is the belief that dentistry should look beyond teeth alone. His approach considers the relationship between breathing, sleep, airway development, jaw and facial growth, TMJ function and overall health, with a particular interest in early intervention and dentofacial orthopaedics — identifying developmental concerns while children are still growing, rather than focusing solely on straightening teeth later in life.
His passion for airway and sleep health is also deeply personal. Having experienced significant sleep apnoea and airway-related concerns himself, Dr Lin has spent much of his professional life investigating the relationship between breathing, sleep and craniofacial
development. This experience has shaped a treatment philosophy centred on a simple principle: health comes first. If a patient cannot breathe or sleep well, these fundamental aspects of health deserve consideration alongside their dental treatment.
Dr Lin has undertaken extensive postgraduate education in orthodontics, dentofacial orthopaedics, airway health and sleep-disordered breathing. In 2018, he achieved Fellowship with the International Association for Orthodontics (IAO), and subsequently
joined the teaching faculty of the International Academy of Advanced Dentistry. He has also served as an advisor to the IAO Education Committee and runs a Brisbane orthodontic study club for dentists.
In 2022, Dr Lin completed postgraduate degrees in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics through Universitat Jaume I in Spain. His academic work has included a 105-page Master’s thesis examining airways and obstructive sleep apnoea, drawing on more
than 300 scientific articles and analysis of over 700 patient sleep studies and 3D airway scans. He has also published scientific work relating to airway and functional orthodontics.
Today, Dr Lin combines clinical dentistry with teaching, healthcare education, entrepreneurship and business leadership, operating five businesses that reflect his interest in building organisations and developing new approaches to healthcare and professional education. Despite his professional achievements, his focus remains straightforward: helping patients become healthier, not simply giving them straighter teeth. His approach brings together dentistry, airway health, sleep and facial development, with the goal of considering the patient as a whole.

It depends on when problems begin to show, but the average age of diagnosis is around 7 years old. Early assessment allows developmental concerns to be identified while a child is still growing.
Yes. Poor breathing can affect every aspect of life, and in children it’s often linked with behaviour issues and learning difficulties, in addition to poor sleep quality.
Snoring in children is generally a sign of an airway issue, and it’s best addressed as soon as it’s noticed rather than left unmonitored.
Almost never — Dr Lin’s approach favours non-extraction orthodontics wherever possible when completing orthopaedic and orthodontic treatment.
Jaw clicking or pain can result from trauma, incorrect growth, or general wear and tear on the jaw joint, and is assessed as part of a broader TMJ evaluation.
