Brighter Smiles Ahead: The Professional Teeth Whitening Process Explained

Want a brighter and healthier smile? Our professional teeth whitening services may be just the thing.

The focus of this article will be on everything you can expect from the teeth whitening process, how teeth whitening can improve your life, what to expect and how we can help.

What You Need to Know About the Teeth Whitening Process

Professional teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to remove stains and discolouration. There are two ways this can be completed:

In Chair Process

If you choose to have the professional teeth whitening in our clinic, this is done using a hydrogen peroxide gel and a light to speed up the process. You will leave the chair with much whiter teeth.

At Home Process

If you follow our instructions correctly and use our premade trays and LED lights at home for 30 minutes a day, you will usually see results within 5 days.

Can Everyone Have Professional Teeth Whitening?

Unfortunately, professional teeth whitening isn’t for everyone. We recommend you do not engage in the practice if you:

– are pregnant and/or breastfeeding
– have existing dental issues or gum disease
– have cracked teeth
– suffer from sensitive teeth
– have braces, veneers or crowns

To find out if this service is right for you, talk to one of our friendly, experienced dentists.

What You Can Expect from Professional Teeth Whitening

What you can expect from teeth whitening depends on the condition of your teeth, your oral healthcare and how committed you are to it working.

For instance, if you opt for our at-home procedure but fail to apply the bleaching trays according to our directions or for the recommended period of time, you’re not doing yourself any favours. It’s likely the teeth whitening process will be ineffective and you would have wasted a lot of time and money.

But if you’re committed to the teeth whitening process – regardless of whether you choose to do it in-clinic or at home – it should last between 6 months to 2 years.

How to Maintain Professional Teeth Whitening

Steps for maintaining professional teeth whitening is much the same as we would recommend to any of our patients taking care of their oral health. We suggest:

– regular check ups and maintenance
– brushing and flossing daily
– limiting exposure to sugary, enamel-wearing or staining drinks and foods (like tea, coffee, lollies and vinegar or beetroot)
– chew sugar-free gum

Can You Get Professional Teeth Whitening Yourself?

It’s worth noting that while there are many DIY teeth whitening kits on the market, the Australian Dental Association recommends that only professional dentists manage your teeth whitening process.

It is not something you should do without consultation, largely because there is no way to guarantee that you are using the right product for your needs, or said product contains what you think it does.

How Does the Teeth Whitening Process Improve Your Life

So how does teeth whitening improve your life? Here are some of the main reasons our patients choose to undergo the process:

Whiter, Brighter Smile

Having a whiter, brighter smile is one of the main benefits of choosing to have your teeth whitened.

Improved Oral Health

Over time, teeth become stained and discoloured for a number of reasons. Not only does the teeth whitening process remove these stains, it has been proven to improve your oral health, reduce cavities and your risk of gum disease.

Long Lasting

When completed in consultation with your dentist and with the right after-care maintenance, professional teeth whitening can last a long time.
